Highlights from Our First Faculty Symposium

In March, members of our shared network gathered for a milestone event: the first Faculty Symposium of the Florida Cooperative of Theological Schools. The gathering offered a vital space for faculty to build connections, share pedagogical best practices and chart a collective path forward for theological education across South Florida.

A Day of Reflection, Context and Shared Vision

The schedule moved from honoring our region’s history to dreaming together about what comes next:

  • The Story of Theological Education in South Florida: We opened the morning looking back at our regional origins, recognizing the distinct histories of our partner institutions and the shared mission that brings us together.

  • A Look at FCTS: Attendees received an inside look at the FCTS team, structural priorities and practical ways our cooperative serves member schools.

  • Contextual Pedagogy with Frank Yamada: Following lunch, Dr. Frank Yamada, Executive Director of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS), delivered a presentation titled "Future of Theological Education: South Florida Theological Education Cooperative." He focused on contextual pedagogy, grounding theological training directly within the cultural and ecclesial realities of our region.

  • Dreaming Ahead: We concluded with a collaborative session exploring what we hope to build and refine together through this cooperative in the years ahead.
